Family owned business is very different to how normal business operates. Because of the nature of family relationships roles and responsibilities may not be as defined or as strongly measured as they would in a non-family business. Or indeed the opposite can apply, whereby family members are held more accountable or are treated in a way that would not be tolerated in a non-family business.
The biggest challenge facing most family businesses is to create clarity around the purpose of the business, the end game of the business and the roles and responsibilities of family members within the business.
